How to Use Fear as Motivation

Updated: Oct 9, 2023

Fear. It's a powerful emotion that has gripped me countless times throughout my life. As an entrepreneur, I've come to realize that fear, much like gasoline, can either power my journey or burn everything I've built to the ground. It's all about how I choose to harness it.

I remember a time when I was overwhelmed by the constant barrage of negativity in the media. The doom-scrolling became a daily ritual, and it seemed like the world was spiraling into chaos. The news, the online chatter, the constant reminders of our vulnerabilities – it was all designed to instill fear and, even worse, make me doubt myself. But then, I had an epiphany. What if I could use this fear as fuel? What if, instead of letting it paralyze me, I could transform it into motivation?

I began to reflect on the nature of fear. Historically, fear has been a protective mechanism. It's the reason we instinctively avoid touching fire or approaching a wild bear. But in today's world, fear has taken on a new form. It's no longer just about physical danger; it's about the fear of the unknown, the fear of judgment, the fear of failure. I realized that I shouldn't view fear as an insurmountable wall but rather as a door. A door that, if I dared to open, could lead to endless opportunities and experiences.

There have been countless times when I've hesitated, thinking about the risks and the potential for failure. But then I remind myself: I'd rather regret the things I did than the things I never tried. Every decision, every risk, every door I've opened has shaped me into the entrepreneur I am today. And if I ever make a wrong turn? Well, life is full of doors, and I can always choose another.

I often think about the generations before me. My parents, grandparents, and those who came before them had limited options compared to the vast opportunities available to us today. We live in an era of unparalleled potential, and it would be a disservice to ourselves and to them if we let fear hold us back.

But here's the thing: fear is not always external. Sometimes, the most potent fear comes from within. There were days when I couldn't even face my reflection, afraid of the person staring back at me. Afraid of not living up to my potential, of not being good enough. But I've learned that this internal fear, this self-doubt, is the most crucial battle to win. Because once you conquer your inner demons, the external world becomes a playground.

I've met many people who've shared their fears with me. The fear of that first post, the fear of judgment, the fear of embarrassment. But embarrassment is a fleeting emotion. It's not real. It's a construct that we use to limit ourselves. The world is full of potential superstars, hidden talents who are too afraid to shine. But I refuse to be one of them. I refuse to let the opinions of others dictate my path.

Every morning, I make a choice. I can either focus on the sunshine or the rain. And even if it's raining, I remind myself that rain is essential for growth. My potential is vast, and I won't let fear lock it away. I wear blinders, blocking out the noise and negativity, focusing solely on my journey and my passion for my customers.

In the end, fear is just an emotion. It's how we respond to it that defines us. I choose to use fear as my motivation, to fuel my entrepreneurial fire, and to live the most fulfilling, successful life possible. And to anyone reading this, I urge you to do the same. Embrace your fears, harness them, and let them propel you towards greatness.
